so if i bought a hdmi to dvi-i cable my problem would be sorted?

The issue might be if it doesnt work there is another problem, first try disabling HDCP and see if that solves the issue, if not try the cable the HDMI to DVI-I, since DVI-I stands both for analog and digital.
I personally never tried only DVI-D cable.
It might be a waste of money.
If you are not quite sure nor am i, just wait for others to answer but im quite unsure will they.

Most monitors have DVI-D ports. DVI-I connectors will not fit in them. In addition, the extra pins on the DVI-I plug won't even be connected to anything on the HDMI side, as it doesn't have those pins.

The issue is most likely that the monitor does not support HDCP over DVI.
