I'm looking into upgrading my pc and have been waiting in other forums for someone to answer me so I figure I'll try here. I was looking into 2 Cpu's which I find out both would need 2 different MB's. The Ryzen 5 2600X and Core i5-8400. First which one would be good for gaming (not a heavy gamer, just Battlefield 1) and watch on Netflix?

I did some searching and found out if I want the Ryzen 5 2600X cpu I have to get a different MB than the Core i5-8400. The MB I found I need to work with the CPU is the Asus Prime X470-Pro, now my questions, will my DDR4 2133 RAM still work on this MB and ZALMAN CNPS9900 NT 120mm 2 Ball Low-noise CPU Cooler work on it and then I plan on getting a new power supply, will this work CORSAIR RMx Series RM850x? Thanks, the sooner I get answers I can buy before hubby changes his mind......lol

DDR4 2133 MHz RAM will work on the X470 board, but I wouldn't use it. Ryzen really benefits from high speed RAM (3000MHz or above) and I would really spend the extra money for the fast RAM. And also, that cooler is not compatible with the AM4 Socket. You would be better off by going with the i5 8400, a B360 Mobo and 2133MHz RAM because you are not planning to do any multi threaded tasks and are only a casual gamer.

As for the power supply, It is a very good quality unit but it is overkill. You don't need that much wattage, even if you pair that CPU with a 1080Ti. If you are going single GPU setup, then a good quality 550W-650W Unit would be enough. If you are going for a GTX 1080/1080Ti, then get a 650W unit. Otherwise a 550W will suffice.

The MB I was looking at for the i5 8400 was this one, ROG STRIX H370-F GAMING and I know my RAM I have now will work on it. As for power supply, I have a Corsair 750 watt now but it's like 11 years old. I want to upgrade it because I will eventually be upgrading my graphics card. My niece had a 500 watt in hers and the graphics card needed 800 watts so she had to get a new power supply. I play Battlefield 1 and Far Cry 5. 500 watts is not going to cut it. I also watch a lot of movies on netflix and youtube, I also do some minor graphics stuff. I wanted something that I can keep up with the people playing BF1, otherwise, I would just keep what I have.

Can you tell me the exact specs that you are planning to go with? There aren't many graphics cards today that require more than 650W on a single GPU setup. Components have gotten alot more efficient over the past few years.

Ok right now I have a AMD Radeon R9 380 series, DDR4 2133 RAM , Intel core i5-6500 320 GHz, ASUS Hi70 PRO GAMING, windows 10 64 bit. I wanted to upgrade my MB and CPU and eventually the graphics card. I was looking into the Core i5-8400 with the Asus ROG STRIX H370-F GAMING MB. Plus a new power supply while we have the extra money since my 750watt is 11-12 years old.

Now I play BF1 and Far Cry 5, in BF1 I want something that is going to help my responses because my speed isn't fast enough. My nieces graphics card, XFX AMD Radeon R9 280X Black OC Edition, she got a used one, it needed a 800 watt power supply, she had 500 watt and Far Cry 5 would freeze on her, she gets the new power supply and no problems with freezing. I also watch movies on Netflix so I need something that is going to run smoothly. Now if I don't get a new power supply would the i5-8600k be better and work on that same MB?

Okay. Your R9 380 will draw about 200Watts at max load. You don't need a 850Watt PSU for your card. Yes your niece had a card that was very power hungry but that does not mean your card also requires the same amount of Power. You will be fine with the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 650W. Also I think something was wrong with your niece's GPU or her Power Supply. as an R9 280X was just a re-badged 7970 so it would have ran fine on a good quality 500W-600W PSU

As for the i5 8600k, that is an unlocked chip. Yes it is faster out of the box than the i5 8400 but the main purpose of the 8600k against the 8400 is that it can be overclocked and the H370 board does not support overclocking. Only Z370 boards do. You will be good with an i5 8400. It boosts upto 4.0GHz out of the box which is more than enough for many games.

I looked at the specs for my niece's card and it did say at least 800 watts, could it be because it was an OC edition? I know my present card is fine with my 750 watt. I'm not going to go lower in watts, I'll just stay with what I have. So the combination I want, the Core i5-8400 and the H370 will work fine? I have been reading some people been having issues with the Z370 boards especially with the LAN. Been looking at newegg for combos but they don't have the H370 in there, do you think that's a good board? I always get Asus boards, never had any issues with them so far. Thanks for all your help!

Ok what if I get the Intel Core i5-8600 would that motherboard be ok. Cause I'm looking at the operating freq. and that one is lower than the one I have now, the Intel Core i5-8600 starts off a bit higher.

Not all Z370s have issues. Maybe some do, however i haven't read about any problems. With the i5 8400 you should be looking at an H370, B360 or an H310. H310 is the cheapest and with the least features. B360 is a nice balance.

This should do fine. It has 6 SATA 6Gb/s ports and crossfire support if you want to go dual GPU setup.

I personally do not think an H370 is worth it. They have about the same features as the B360 boards and mostly you can get a Z370 at around the same price as an H370. You should go with the B360, its a good balance between price and features.

Well I have a 400.00 budget.....lol, well so far if hubby doesn't change his mind. Ok what if I get the Intel Core i5-8600 would that B360-F gaming be ok. Cause I'm looking at the operating freq. and that one is lower than the one I have now, the Intel Core i5-8600 starts off a bit higher. Ok I just checked the B360-F gaming and it's really close to the H370-F. I really like the B360-F

Yes, with the i5 8600 the B360 would still be fine. the i5 8600 is also an unlocked chip unlike the 8600k so it should be fine going with a B360 considering you cant overclock the cpu.

That's what I figured it wasn't the unlocked one, so that's my setup, going to go and order it now. Thanks for your help and sorry for all the questions but I like to check and recheck before I make a move on computer stuff. I appreciate all your help.
