I am trying to install windows 10 onto an m.2 ssd. I created a 35000mb partition for it, but when i select it in the windows setup it says "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files." I cannot find the setup log files, so i dont know the root of the error.

Sounds like you are missing the drivers for m.2 SSD. Go go manufacture website and place the driver on a USB thumb drive. Plug it in your system when you go to install. After the partition section when it says "we cannt create a new partition or locate an existing one" at the bottom there is an option to install drivers, browse to the usb thumb drive and install them then try the process again.

The manufacture website does not have the drivers, it doesnt even list my ssd on it. I bought this ssd from a local micro center. I will link the product page. http://www.microcenter.com/product/503685/256GB_3D_NAND_M2_2280_PCIe_NVMe_Gen_3_x2__Internal_Solid_State_Drive
I will provide a link to the manufacture website since it is not listed on the micro center page. This is the website listed on the packaging for the ssd. http://www.ipsgproducts.com/
p.s. Sorry I downvoted, it was a missclick

Yeah I see what you mean. I honestly never heard of Inland before for parts. I'm assuming its a rebranded part.

You can try to go into BIOS and try changing the mode type for boot. If its in IDE change it to SATA and if its in SATA try changing it to AHCI mode.

Also you might want to refer to this forum post for some extra ideas. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3473090/install-windows.html

As for drivers. You might be able to get away with generic drivers from another brand like Samsung or Intel drivers if none of the above work. Or contact Microcenter and ask them.

Does your motherboard support NVMe drives?

If so, connect only the M.2 drive. Disable CSM (Compatibility Support Module) if you have one.

Delete the partition you made. You want an empty drive.

How to create a bootable UEFI USB drive with Windows 10 Setup
https://winaero.com/blog/how-to-create-a-bootable-uefi-usb-drive-with-windows-10-setup/

Insert a USB memory stick with a bootable UEFI USB drive with Windows 10 Setup on it, USB3 is quicker but USB2 works also. A Windows DVD won’t work unless you’ve created your own UEFI Bootable DVD.

Reboot

Windows 10 will now start installing to your NVME drive as it has its own NVME driver built in.

For the Boot mode in my bios, the only choices i have are UEFI or LEGACY+UEFI. (MSI Z270 Gaming M5) I tried using Samsung Drivers but they dont show up in the windows installer, and i dont know where to find intel drivers. I looked on my motherboards website, but all i can find is the intel rapid storage technology drivers. I dont know if those are the drivers you were previously mentioning.

I had previously used this drive on this computer and it worked just fine, but now i want to put my windows onto it and it starts giving me trouble. i created the partition so that my previously installed files wouldn't interfere with the windows install. I will gladly format the whole drive, but i would rather be 100% certain that it would work after that. I would rather not lose 150 Gb of games and it still not work if you see what im saying.
p.s. Im pretty sure that my motherboard supports nvme drives, but if you want to double check (which is fine, im not claiming to be an expert here:p) My motherboard is the MSI Z270 Gaming M5
