Will a Displayport to HDMI cord work for me?

Just bought a second monitor for my pc. Only after buying it did I realise that the displayports on my graphics card were not hdmi and I couldn't actually plug in the monitor. Im wondering if there are any side effects of using a displayport to hdmi adapter and plugging it into the monitor. Will it still work the same as hdmi to hdmi?

It will be the same as HDMI, though the maximum speed will be limited. If your monitor is higher than 1080p 60 Hz you need a type 2 adapter (something advertised for "4K").
