malware back after wipe

I wiped my computer to remove a malware. When i ran a virus scan after the wipe it still found malware.

How can the malware still remain after a wipe of the computer?

What do you mean by "wipe"? Was the drive formatted to remove everything then windows reinstalled? If not whatever you did is not what I would call a wipe. If you did then it's some malware I don't understand or it's a particularly nasty piece of work that made it into your motherboards firmware or into the firmware of something else.

Probably, what you're calling "wipe", in reality is something else.
For a proper wipe, you'd have to clean all hdds/ssds and reinstall OS.

Thank you for you answers. Yes, i did a complete wipe of the system (reinstalled windows). But i think i found what caused it and that it probably is a false positive!
