Hello,

So with the Windows 10 April 2018 update i am getting the UEFI firmware error when trying to update. i found a guide on this website http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-3544432/fix-windows-unsupported-disk-layout-uefi-error.html and tried it. but the first thing i noticed was my ssd with windows 10 on it did not have the * in command prompt saying its in GPT format. the guide told me i will need to reinstall windows 10. So my two questions before i go about doing a fresh reinstall is. One, can i do anything else to get around this and avoid having to reinstall windows 10 too get the April update? and two, if i must reinstall windows 10 how should i go about doing it? i know to save my most important work on a USB stick before anything else but is it just formatting my ssd with windows 10 on it and reinstall it via USB stick like you would building a new PC?

Thanks!

If you are running ver. 1703, then the article you mention is OOD. Check out this summary of ways to in place convert to a GPT disk, especially the lower section which refers to:
"the new MBR2GPT Disk Conversion Tool in Windows 10 Creators Update v1703. Using this built-in tool, you can safely and non-destructively convert a Windows 10 computer from legacy BIOS to UEFI disk partitioning."
