I'm looking to change up my pc recently as i've noticed the performance I was hoping for hasnt really been happening. Hoping for a new CPU as i've just got a new GPU

Current Specs:
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth 990fx r3.0
CPU: AMD-FX 9370 Black Edition
GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6GB

Looking for a different CPU and Motherboard any help would be appreciated.

Are you hoping to reuse your systam Ram? If so, you are limited to ddr3 capable motherboards, which top out at the Intel z97 and z170 chipset motherboards. If you are amenable for a complete upgrade, then the Intel 8400 with an H370 chipset motherboard and at least 8gb of DDR4(2x4gb sticks) is a good start. If you prefer Amd, then the new Ryzen Cpus and motherboards aren't a bad way to go.

Will you be buying new, or used?

I'm hoping to mainly play rust and fortnite. I Dont really have a budget in mind but I really think my current hardware is pretty good for them games and am curious to why I only get around 90 frames in fortnite which is a game I imagine isn't too demanding on my hardware any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.

Thanks for your reply man and I am thinking about going for a full upgrade but keeping my gpu. However I believe my current hardware is good enough to run a game like fortnite really well atleast 100+ frames and i want to get the most out of the 144hz monitor I have but I really only get 70-90 frames in fortnite while playing at 1024x768 on pretty much the lowest settings. Any thoughts would be appreciated man.

Commendable
70-90 fps is about right for your setup. Running at such a low resolution puts the workload more on the CPU than the GPU. Raise the resolution to 1920 x 1080 on med-high settings. You should see about 70 ish fps.

Okay thank you. Do you have any recommendations for a cheapish ram motherboard and cpu that i could upgrade to that may get me to break 100 fps? thank you for replying man. Not too great with this type of stuff.

As has been mentioned a couple of times, the Intel 8400 is a great Cpu for the price. 6 cores, good price. I'd look at something like this:

Amd isn't a slouch this generation either, for them I'd look at something like:

Both setups will do really well with a 1060 6gb and will keep you gaming for years to come.
