New Monitor Help: "Gaming Monitors" (ASUS vs. LG)

I've never owned an ASUS, but have heard good things about their ROG offerings. Additionally, I've never owned a wide or curved model, but I'm (obviously) not opposed given the selections below.

What's the consensus in that regard? Is wide preferred?

Am I missing some obvious choices?
