Hi all,

I'm currently debating whether to upgrade my custom built PC or buy a new one as it is quite old. I built this back in early 2015 using the 'How to build your own Cheap gaming PC 2014! (Ad)' video by Jackfrags. I've recently purchaced a replacement PSU as for some reason it would cut the power. In order to play the latest, high-end games, I think I need a better GPU (?) and I can not figure out what would be an upgrade from the Sapphire Dual-X Radeon R9 270X while still being compatible with my PC.

Specs:
GPU: Sapphire Dual-X Radeon R9 270X

RAM: Ballistix Sport 8 GB

Hard Drive: 1TB Seagate Barracuda

PSU: 500W]https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-100-W1-0500-K3-500W-Supply-100-W1-0500-K3-Socket/dp/B00H33SFJU]500W EVGA 80+[/url]

Processor: AMD Piledriver FX6300 6 Core

Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A

DVD-RW

Case (black)

I purchaced all of these off of Aria PC but some of the parts are no longer available on the site. Original links can be found in the Jackfrags video's description.

I'm not a computer builder, I don't know where to begin upgrading. All help is appreciated but the main focus is what GPU should I buy as an upgrade so I can play the latest games. (Not fussed about VR)

Thanks!
Will

the 270x is not too far behind the now-minimum 1050ti, a good choice would be a 1060 6Gb for literally double the performance, looks like they are starting around $270. The RX 580 is also a good choice for slightly less, starting around $220 (with rebates of course).

Which ever you choose, personally I would upgrade the PSU as well to at least a decent 550w like the CX 550w which is a killer deal from the 'egg for $33 ($50 w/ a $20 MIR and $3 shipping), that's a minimum requirement for the RX 580 but not so much for the 1060 which only needs under 500w (but I don't think I would trust the 500B with that power demand, get the Corsair grey-label CX at the very least).

All that said, if you do upgrade you will find the FX 6300 is going to be the weak spot in a LOT of new titles. Consider a full cpu/mem/mobo upgrade to either a real 6-core i5-8400 or a Ryzen 5 2600x.
