Windows update printer install failure

I have a old HP LaserJet 1100 printer that worked fine with my print server till I did a fresh install to a 500gb m.2 ssd, when I update windows printer list and go to install my printer after a few sec I get PRINTER NOT INSTALLED.

I do not have the original disc for the printer. this worked in the past what changed?

You could try downloading the driver from here, since there are none for Win 10 suggest you try XP 32-bit.

I installed that driver but the printer just printed garbage

Step 1 : Download and install the software from the HP website
Step 2: Download and install the software
Step 3:: Install the product driver using Windows Update
