Some image files no longer show a preview, just a default file icon. Also certain windows programs taskbar icons are blank

As the title says, a lot of my images/pdfs just show a standard file instead of showing a preview of the image. Also buttons for things like computer settings just show a blank square on my taskbar.

I'll attach images.

Any idea what's going on?
