Black folder icon background when deleting a folder.

Hey guys.



I am having a bit of an annoying problem with my Windows 10 os. When permanently deleting a folder, the folder icon shows up with a black background (screenshot is attached).



NOTE: This only happens when deleting a folder. Windows explorer shows the folders fine only when deleting them this happens.



Things I have tried.



Clean thumbnails using Disk Cleanup tool (not admin)

Did not resolve the issue.



It started when I restored some important files from a recently crashed drive. I am thinking that it is caused by a virus but scanning using malwarebytes and avast gave no result.



Hope somebody can help.

Does this happen on all files or just the ones you rescued? As it can be caused by corrupted files

So SFC/DISM didn't fix anything? or find any problems? That is good as at least windows image seems okay.

Curious, try setting up a new local account and see if it has same problem with the delete action - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/4026923/windows-10-create-a-local-user-or-administrator-account - that will at least tell us if its just the user or a deeper problem.

Thank you so much for your advise. When I did a clean install of Windows, everything was fine. For example, this users folder looks normal. but when I did copy some documents from the crashed drive to the ssd, this happened. It hasn't come across my mind to try it in a new user account but will do when I get home.

SFC/DISM did not fix anything btw.

Its a similar problem but not exactly same - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-files-winpc/black-background-on-my-folder-icons/5f5a9a11-a606-474f-937a-98158bde6935?auth=1 cause yoiu can see only 3 are black, so perhaps its related.

Is it only files saved off the hdd or all folders?

I have tried it on a new user account and it does not happen there so there must be a problem on my account.

Followed the troubleshooting on your link to no avail. I guess I will just reinstall Windows. Thanks for helping I appreciate it.
