"No Signal" message seemingly at random from new 1080p TV

So, I recently got a new 40 inch 1080p TV (my last display was a 20 inch 720p TV) and I've been having all sorts of problems with it being hooked up to my PC. My PC currently has a GTX 780, Intel i7 3770k, a 750 watt power supply, and a Gigabyte Z77 motherboard running on Windows 7. Here's what's been going on;

When I first started using the TV, I'd have issues running full screen games. As soon as the game would launch it would go to a black screen. I learned from other forums that unplugging and plugging in the HDMI cable could fix this and changing the refresh rate from 60hz to 59hz. It worked, I do not know why but it did. After that, I started getting "No Display" messages on my TV and neither of those things would work. I have to do a hard reset to fix it. Sometimes, the computer just goes into a restarting cycle and I have to keep it off for a few hours but that's only happened about two or three times. It's happened when it's been on sleep mode for a while, when it's been on the desktop for a while, during a blu-ray movie, and here's something interesting: It happens when I plug in a 3.5mm jack into the motherboard (for my 5.1 audio system). As soon as I plug it in, I get the message.

So, it sounds like this might be the motherboard? Or could it be that the power supply doesn't have enough juice to power this new display with a larger resolution? I've tried updating Windows, my graphics drivers, using MSI Afterburner to "force constant voltage", but nothing has worked so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

That appear to be handshake issue between the TV and PC.
Are you connecting the TV to the motherboard or GTX 780 GPU?
It does not look like a PSU issue. What's your PSU model?
What's the model of the TV? Some TVs support certain resolutions and refresh rates depending of the input connection (VGA, HDMI)

I'm connecting the TV directly to the GPU via HDMI. And my power supply is a Corsair CX750M. And if it were a handshake issue then why would I get the message after plugging in a 3.5mm audio cable into the motherboard?

Your problem might be related to an audio conflict between the 3.5mm audio and HDMI audio. Windows could be automatically detecting the change in audio devices and this is creating some kind of conflict. Go into your Device Manager and disable the HDMI Audio devices associated with your nVidia graphics card.

Alternately, if you want to use both nVidia HDMI audio and onboard audio, you might be able to resolve this problem by updating all of your motherboard, audio, and graphics card drivers.

You also may be having an issue related to your HDMI cable. A higher quality cable might provide a more reliable/stable connection.

Your PC is switching from HDMI sound out to 3.5mm audio out and in the process is disconnecting form the TV and that's why you are getting the "No Display" message on the TV.
I have encountered that before and I have fix it by using the optical out connector on the motherboard to deliver the sound to TV.
You might be able to fix it on some motherboards by changing audio setting and sometimes updating drivers.
Are there other issues that might make you think the motherboard is failing? Like freezing when just browsing or random reboots and shutdown, etc.

Hmm, I haven't thought of that actually. I'll try disabling the HDMI audio and see if that helps anything. But if that were the case then why would my display give me the "No Signal" message after trying to wake the PC from sleep or after idling for a while?

That points to a potential issue with the HDMI cable. That's the handshake issue jojesa was talking about. I've thrown more than a few HDMI cables in the trash for issues like this.

You may also want to check your event viewer logs and make sure that you don't have any display driver crashes being reported when the computer enters or exits sleep mode.

Well after disabling HDMI audio it just happened again after a few hours of use. When I rebooted, this event message showed up on the desktop:

When you say "it happened again", do you mean that the video went out randomly? or were you plugging in an audio cable?

That error is fatal and would be more serious than a simple video cable issue. BlueScreen events indicate that the OS has completely crashed. I couldn't tell you why this issue started up when you swapped screens, but I suspect the problem is deeper. Before you get into anything further, you should hookup your computer the way you had it with the old screen and confirm whether the issues are persistent. If it's persistent, then you need to broaden the scope of your testing.

1) Turn your computer off and reseat your GPU, RAM, and Power Connectors.
2) Perform a clean install of your video drivers: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2767677/perform-clean-install-video-card-drivers.html
3) Check for an update to your chipset and audio drivers at the manufacturers website, not microsoft updates.
4) Check your CPU/GPU temps at load
5) Run a cycle or two of MEMTEST86

I have seen that BSOD 0X00000116 on Windows 7 many times and and all but one case (faulty GPU) it was related to video drivers.

-Download the latest drivers for your GPU from nVidia website
-Download DDU
- (Optional) Disable the Windows 7 driver updating feature or disconnect internet.
-Start Windows in Safe Mode
-Run DDU, select: nVidia Software and drivers then select: Clean (Windows reboots on normal mode.)
- Install the previously downloaded nVidia drivers, select: Custom, uncheck Everything except the GPU driver
then check the Clean Install Box. Finish the installation and reboot.

So I just did as you instructed, still got a "No signal" message unfortunately.

I was not able to use the old TV, when I get this error and shut down my PC I then have to wait a while before turning it back on. Otherwise it will either boot with sound and a "No signal" message, hang at the "Starting Windows" screen, or just start completely blank and do nothing. I'm even using my old HDMI cable with no luck. I've been doing more research online for this BSOD code 116 and it appears to be some kind of graphics card issue but it seems like nobody is clear on what exactly it is (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/381257-33-bsod-error)

Anyways, here's all of the events prior to the shutdown that occurred yesterday. Sorry about the format, I wasn't sure how I should post it. It starts from the bottom though:
