**Update: I have exchanged this monitor for another of the same exact model (XB272), however... it is doing the same thing.

These images are when I first received the newly exchanged 2nd monitor on September 18, 2018:

Within 4 days (Sept 22nd now), the dark circle appears and grows darker... I am afraid it will turn out like the 1st one I had:

I have found other people with this similar issue on their Acer, Asus, and Dell monitors. They call it the "Buttcheek Effect".

For anyone interested in more information or is having the same issue and stumbled upon this thread, here are some links:

Original Message:

Hello,

Last week I had a new computer built and also received the Acer Predator XB272 monitor as a gift which was priced around $550. I picked it up New from Best Buy. (27" Full HD (1920x1080) NVIDIA G-SYNC TN Monitor, Display Port & HDMI Port, 240Hz)

Here are some concerns:

1) Issue - Monitor Going Solid White when Gsync is On
When I first turned it on, the screen was fine - colors/black were uniformed.
I played a videogame (Fortnite) on 240hz with Gsync for 3 hours.
I switched to another videogame (Vindictus) and then the monitor immediately went solid white.
This affects the entire monitor, not just the game/program regardless of tabbing out the monitor continues to stays white, yet I can still hear audio. I had to keep powering On and Off the monitor and try to quickly close the game before it turns white within a second or two again. This happened frequently, and only with Gsync on. If Gsync is off, it does not go solid white. I used the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor, then switched to a higher quality VESA certified DisplayPort 1.2 cable and it still does this. Another time that it would go Solid White is when I opened the NVIDIA GeForce Experience program, again with Gsync on and I had to power on and off, it would display normally upon powering on but then go Solid White within 2 seconds so I had to exit the program quickly. It would also do this when I tried opening Forza Horizon 4 Demo. I believe it is the monitor that is the problem and not my computer because when it turns white - I have unplugged the DisplayPort cable from my tower and it still stays solid white.

Just tried another game (Call of Duty: Black Ops 4) w/Gsync and it turned solid white again.

2) Issue - As I stated above, the first time I ever turned on the monitor the screen color was uniformed. However, within the first two days, a noticeable dark circle with a glowing ring around it appeared. See pictures.

As you can see, this is most noticeable when viewed from the side. I did not think it would be an issue since I sit in front of the monitor. However, in dark backgrounds it is quite noticeable.

Is this common in TN panels (this is my first, I came from IPS)? Is my monitor defective and should I return/exchange it? Or.. if I keep the monitor, is there a risk of it growing worse/giving more problems in the future?

3) Issue - A few other minor issues.

One, There is a strong small light at the upper left of the monitor.

Second, a strong lightbleed(?) at the top most noticeable in dark scenes. You can sort of see it from the above pictures I have posted but the photos do not show it very well. However, these are minor issues to me and do not bother me much.

So my question is:
May anyone explain what is going on with the monitor, why is there a dark circle with glowing outer ring and why does it keep going Solid White with Gsync on? Would you recommend me to exchange this monitor? Or if this is common in TN, should I just keep it instead of risk exchanging it for another that could carry worse issues (dead pixels, etc)? I feel bad due to this being a $550 gift from a friend and need to make a decision before Best Buy's 15-day Return/Exchange period. She bought me the last one in stock from the local store, and the customer service representative said that I will need to return it back to the store, then have my friend re-purchase from online and wait for it to ship. If the next one is also defective we will have to repeat the process.

Thank you.

The dark circle issue will definitely increase along with light bleeds. and for the issue of going white, I think the GAME that maybe isnt built for g-sync. You should definitely get it checked out or replace.

You are right, the dark circle definitely became deeper and much darker within a day and is incredibly bad right now compared to the pictures I posted. I will get it exchanged.

Its an Acer Predator, so I dont expect them to make such mistakes, and on top of that the mistake happened twice. I want you to try playing games like you would normally do and feel for some abnormal amounts of heat on the display (backside and front side).

Not feeling abnormal amounts of heat on any sides. But, I have found others who have identical issue. They call it the "Buttcheek Effect". It is found in some Acer, Asus, and Dell monitors dating back from 2011 and 2016.

Here are some links for anyone interested in more information with others having the similar screen issue:

In the 3rd link, these posts were from 2011 and if you scroll down on the 1st page to the 3rd from last post, someone also posted a "Before" and "After" photo and said it was on their Third monitor.

Like mine, other people have reported that this issue occurs within 3-4 days of using the monitor.
