Question to those using r5 2600 - is it worth overclocking and save few bux or better pick r5 2600x. what im woried is performance, will it be the same @4.2ghz 2600 vs 2600x?
The X version just happens to have a higher base/max turbo frequency but the 2600 is overclock-able and can easily surpass the X version. Aside from the from that, the X has a Wraith Spire cooler as oppose to the lower end Wraith Stealth.
So no not worth to get the X when you can save a lot with 2600.
i would pick 2600.
and for cooling i would go for cooler master ml 240 lite. other cooling options currently available are bequiet dark rock pro 4 or some cheap coolers that i wouldnt even dare to touch.
ml 240 lite is cheaper than dark rock 4 and is liquid, i guess its beter for overclocking.
I asked myself the same question and went with a standard R5-2600 and used the money saved to bump up the next model of GTX1070 and still hit 4.2Ghz stable 24/7.
So the price difference between the two is 20 in Canada and you will be required to buy a separate cooler to OC 2600 to match 2600x which is alredy OCed with a slightly better stock cooler that can be used as it.
So I dont know how the above person that bought 2600 could save 20 dollars to upgrade to 1070 possibly from 1060 and also achieve 4.2 clock speed 24/7 as this would also require him to buy a separate cooler which at that point should already have spent that 20 dollars.
I think 2600x will be better for people that just wants piece of mind as it has higher base and turbo clock out of the box for extra 20 dollars where no further purchase is required unless you want to upgrade yourself to AOI to achieve lower CPU temp.
