Laptop wont duplicate to TV via HDMI

when I plug in a hdmi cable and try to duplicate to my tv it doesn't work if I press windows+p and click duplicate nothing happens and if you reopen the window it says its still in the pc screen only.
My system is the ASUS X555LA with the ram upgraded from 4gb to 8gb running windows 10

Known working HDMI cable?

What make and model TV? Did you use the TV's menu screens to select the applicable HDMI input?
