I have a HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 10. It works great running games and such but freezes constantly when playing video and running word or internet browsers. I have seen in task manager that when it freezes the disk is at 100% and I have tried several fixes for this to no avail. I have disabled Search, defraggled, checked the disk, changed the virtual memory, basically all the fixes listed here; https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/100-disk-usage-windows-10-fixed/ but none have worked. Other things that I have noticed going wrong are that occasionally after a reboot no text will appear on any windows default programs, often while typing the letters appearing lags behind the keyboard significantly, and it has been very slow to boot. I only bought this laptop a bit over a year ago and it does not have much installed so shouldn't be having so many problems. Any help would be appreciated

Try downloading the trial version of http://www.hdtune.com/ and go to the health tab and allow it to run a scan, you want all OK scores next to each line. Slow startup, the text loading slow, can all be a sign hdd is cause.

HDTune should show what type of hdd it is as well, might help to know that if score is bad. As some hdd makers have their own tests you can run.

If Hdtune shows okay on everything, try a clean boot.

Carefully read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any Microsoft services as Windows may not load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if usage is reduced, its possible one of you start up programs is the cause, slowly, over a few restarts, re add servicees you had closed and any startup programs, to see if one of them causes the usage.

I went through that list and saw that disabling superfetch was a step. However, they do it in a very unorthodox way that I have never seen before. You should try and do it the normal way.

Go to the task manager, go to the services tab and at the bottom there should be a thing you can click that says open services. (Basically, go to services). Go down the list until you find "Superfetch" then right click and click on properties. Click stop, then change the startup type to disabled.

Superfetch is the culprit 90%+ of the time for this problem disabling it should help. If not feel free to respond back.

Also you can try seeing if you have any viruses that could be running in the background using your HDD and slowing startup.
You can use Malwarebytes to check if you have any viruses.
