Hi so I recently bought a new cpu (ryzen) which does not support windows 7 the OS I'm currently using. I can not boot into my OS to upgrade to windows 10 but I do have a boot able windows 10 USB. Can I upgrade to windows 10 on my hdd from the USB?
I have my win7 product code.

New CPU. This equals new motherboard as well, correct?
Currently you have Win 7?

If so...this is not an 'upgrade'. You need to do a full wipe and reinstall.

So if I wipe my windows 7 os from my hard drive using the boot able usb. How do I get windows 10 onto the hdd?
I do not have a spare USB to download win10 as this USB is my friend's.

You're kind of in a bad place right now.
You can't boot up your current Win 7 install with the new hardware.
You don't have a workable OS to create a new Win 10 USB to install from.
And you don't have a blank USB anyway.

Correct?

I have a bootable USB drive and I'm purchasing a cheap USB stick. This will work?

My win7 hard drive from my desktop before buying brand new cpu and mobo.

OK, then you don't need anything else.
How long ago was that Win 10 USB created? It would be better to have a freshly made one. That would include the latest version.

I am not sure as it is my friend's and is used for mainly repairing windows and such.

Would it help if I had a fresh USB?
