TLDR: If I were to play my games at 1280*720 on a 1920*1080 monitor; would the experience be worse than playing a 1280*720 game on a 1360*768 monitor?

I am looking to replace my current Samsung (18-19in) monitor 1360*768 of 10 years because of a defect that shows a vertical blue line on the left (3 inches from the center). The defect occurred a few months after I purchased it. Anyhooz, I am on the market for a good IPS monitor.

Does HP make reliable monitors? Because the original monitor that came with my HP setup in 2003 (TFT) decided to stop working 10 years ago, which was the reason I had to buy the Samsung monitor that I am presently using. The original HP monitor that came with my PC only therefore lasted 5 years, I really want an HP monitor cause then it would match my CPU case, speakers, and all of the original stuff that came with the desktop in 2003 (keeping it for it's nostalgic appeal, i was only 8 then).

I have upgraded my PC since I got it in 2003; and now it's a fairly newish system, I seldom play games, but I mostly enjoy playing Grand Theft Auto Online and Battlefield 1 with my small group of friends. Therefore in 2014 I chose to go for a (then) low-mid end setup of an i5 4460; 8GB DDR3; GTX750ti upgraded to a 1050 in 2016.

I was wondering if getting a good 1080p monitor would impact my gaming experience or should I go for a 768p one? Upgrading GPU not feasible since I am a student, I might at most buy the upcoming 2050, but if it's anything like upgrading from a 750ti to a 1050; I might not do it. TY and sorry for the long essay.

Solution
So long as you choose to have 720p in your in-game settings page set to that resolution, with your GPU won't be affected much. If you do want to tax the GPU with 1080p gaming, on the other hand, you will need to drop down in-game settings to get playable frame rates.
