Recently I rebuild my old PC. I am confused which Windows operating system is good for desktop.

Specifications/Configuration:

  • Processor - Core i5 760 1st Gen
    RAM - 16 GB Crucial DDR3 1333mhz
Hard Drives - Kingston: 240 GB SSD and 1 TB Seagate HDD
    Asus Graphic Card
    Motherboard - Asus P7H55-M PRO

My motherboard support Windows XP, 7, 8, & 8.1. It's not providing/supporting Windows 10 Drivers & Utilities.

I know, I am using very old system but it has higher speed compare to my recently purchased Core i3 6006u (DDR4 8GB + 250 SAMSUNG EVO) laptop. My laptop speed is excellent & enough for me because I'm a Full stake developer.

Please help me to choose best Windows for new build desktop.

we aren't a hivemind... I will bring the subject up elsewhere.

I did say it might work, its just with windows 10 needing the drivers to be signed by microsoft to work on it, they would need to install win 7 1st and then upgrade to 10.

the op never replied to say it worked in that thread.

win 10 will install if there are drivers from the hardware makers on board. Its a case by case thing, there might be people with that exact board who have installed win 10

for instance - http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3236848/asus-p7h55d-pro-intel-h55-chipset-windows.html

if you do install it, might help to turn Fast startup off as USB ports may not all work otherwise -...

Vapour should have looked at motherboard driver support.

Your motherboard doesn't have any win 8 or 10 drivers, it might work if you do an update from 7, but it might struggle to find drivers for all the hardware if you clean install. The Only win 8 download is a new BIOS, no drivers at all. Could be a bumpy ride ahead.

I would stay on 7 unless you really want a headache.

I had faced USB port issue on Windows 10 after installation. But it solved by your detailed answer. Everything is running fine now.

For the drivers' installation, I took Microsoft help. Please follow the following link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4028443/windows-10-update-drivers

Thank you for your valuable information and time!
