Over clocking a 144hz monitor with hdmi connection to 144hz since I can only get 120hz, will it effect anything?

I have a 144hz gaming monitor and I am using hdmi to hdmi connection from my laptop to my monitor. I know I can only get 120hz with hdmi but I only have hdmi on my laptop. Can I overclock it to 144hz since my monitor is compatible with 144hz. If I do this will this effect my monitor?

The monitor I’m using is the MSU optic 24 inch 144hz 1 ms reponsed time and curved

The laptop I’m using is a dell 15 inches i7577

I do not believe that monitor will work above 120 Hz, but yes you can try.
