I was tasked to pick out a PC for a family friends son. Typically, I would buy the parts and build it for him, but he's a few states away and im in a cast for a few months, so ive found two prebuilts.

Money isnt in the equation, though i have some concerns that id like some feedback on.

The first is https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883102512 at 1500usd

(1080ti, 8700k, 16gb 2666, 240 ssd)

He was really interested in this one, but i had concerns about the temps on the 8700k. I have a coolermaster 212 evo here that I told him I would mail him if it was acceptable for the CPU.

The second PC will be on sale for BF at 1099usd. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883230377&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=11892370&PID=4328635&SID=

2700x, 1080, 8gb 2400 ram, 240 ssd

My concern with that one is the GPU. Ive read some pretty poor reviews on the MSI Aero 1080 about running hot as well and being a "lesser" quality than other manufacturers.

Any insight on which PC would better suit his needs would be appreciated. Im trying to weigh the pros and cons, and have some knowledge, but not enough to feel comfortable picking one out for him.

Hes wanting to game 1440 at 144hz, so take that into consideration.

Thank you.

For 1440p 144hz, I would go with the 8700K/1080 ti system for sure. It might run a bit toasty but that cooler but should do OK with no overclocking. If he has any trouble then it might be worth sending him some info on a cooler install. Are you sure that they wouldn't be able to put parts together themselves? Might be a fun family project. For what it's worth, I would be more worried about the power supply than the cooler on any prebuilt. Those specs for $1500 though looks decent.

I doubt he knows what OC is. I do have a spare corsair cx750m psu also (if that's any better) , could send that to him as well with the cooler.

Why do pre-builts cheap out on the psu? It's not like they're expensive

Because most people don't know the difference and it doesn't impact out of the box performance. CX 750 grey label is ok, the green one is garbage though, not sure which one you have. Does he have a store nearby that he could just purchase parts from and pay a fee to have them put them together? Frys and microcenter both usually offer services like that.
