newb here - happy to read if there's documentation that can lay this out for me. I play a racing simulator and am using an old 60hz monitor running on an R9 280 from my build 5 years ago. I am wondering if im being limited visually in a way that could be costing me speed. ive been looking into upgrading my monitor to 144hz, but im wondering if monitors are dependent on other components to reach their full potential, and without upgrading those components it would be a waste - gpu, processor, cables, etc. similar to only having _bit windows and trying to upgrade over _GB RAM.

can anyone point me to a reference that helps piece the dependencies together? would really appreciate it.

If you don't have hardware (CPU and graphics card, and to some degree, memory) capable of maintaining 144FPS on the games you play at the settings you like, then a 144hz monitor would be a waste UNLESS you have plans to upgrade to more capable hardware in the near future.
