I have two options I've decided whether to overclock this Phenom II X4 965 with an after-market cooler with the GTX 660 2GB, which will give me brilliant optics but probably not that good performance overall with the Phenom holding it back.
The 2nd option is an i5-3470 with a Radeon 7850 2GB.
Which will give me better gaming performance overall? I'm going to be playing games like TF2, Guild Wars 2, Sims, Battlefield 3 and Gary's Mod. Thank you.

First the AMD option:

CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3V Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer
RAM: Crucial Ballistix (2x4) 8GB 1600Mhz
Case: Novatech Vulcan Midi Case V2

Secondly the Intel option:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: Kingston Predator Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC Twin Frozr 2GB
Case: Cooler Master Elite 335 Upgraded ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer

I think you have your labels reversed.

Since I see the GTX660 and 7850 as comparable cards on tom's heirarchy list, I would go with the superior ivy bridge quad.
The phenom has a passmark number of 4309, the i5-3470 is 6670.

I doubt that you could OC the phenom sufficiently to overcome that.

the 660 is comparable to the 7870. but for this build i would take the intel, the phenom II's are pretty old and slow compared to new cpu's. As another option, i would prefer one of the new i3's and a 660 or 7870. or even fx 4300.
