My shiny new £1000 build??

Hi all,


This will be my first build, I would appreciate any opinions about compatibility, better parts but only if comparably priced as I am right at my budget limit!!


Usage: Gaming (Crysis mainly), General surfing etc, Little (occasional) graphics rendering & 3D modelling.

Budget: £1000 - currently my parts total £996

Location: UK

Purchase Date: Looking to start buying parts as soon as.

Key Points:
- Must be RAID 1 (I lost a drive once >> too painful to go through again)
- The wife says it must be quiet, as the current one in noisy
- Would like to be set up for O'Cing in future, don't think I'm ready yet.


Parts not buying:
- Monitor
- Keyboard & Mouse
- Speakers

- SSD:
I will buy one later, so SSD compatibility is important - I chose mobo with SRT, is there anything else to consider?

HDD1 - WD Black 1TB - WD1002FAEX
HDD2 - WD Black 1TB - WD1002FAEX
OPTD - Sony AD-5280S-0B
PSU - Seasonic x650W
OS - Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium

Any help or comments or things I have missed welcome.

Hmm, do you need both HDD's? You are in the sweet spot for gaming with your ram. Looks like a very good rig, you do plan on playing with only one screen right? But, overall seems to be a good rig.

Two things. First, don't get the TwinFrozr III on a 660. There's really no point - a reference cooler would keep it cool after overclocks.

Second, you really, really want a SSD. Even just a 128GB one for Windows and programs. It's the single largest upgrade you can do at this time to make a computer feel more responsive.

I need two HDDs for RAID 1.

Re TwinFrozr, I was thinking about the slightly "overkill" GPU cooler keeping it quiet rather than the temperature wise..? It doesn't seem to make a large price difference.

With regard to SSDs I have to re-consider... Hmm to go over budget or not? ....

SSD will make your system noticeably faster, I mean that's not what made me go over budget, but any modern gaming setup should have one if they can. Well have fun.
