New mobo, cpu, ram and graphics card for £700

i want to upgrade my computer and i have £700, i already have a decent psu, case etc.

so what would you guys recommend? I'm thinking a i5 3570K, and a asus gtx 670 directcu ii top, but i am open to ideas and i don't care about what brand i just want the best, also it would be nice if the components supported features that the other components offer. apart from the CPU and GPU I'm not sure what to get.

thank you for your time,

  1. What's your PSU? I'm going to assume that it'll cover everything. Also, do you have a CPU cooler? I'm assuming you do. So all you need is a CPU, GPU, RAM, and motherboard, right? For 700, here's what I would do:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor (£162.97 @ Novatech)
The i5-2500k is cheaper than the IB equivalent. It's also a better overclocker. Overall, it's just a better chip... you don't need the upgraded IGP on IB, and that's all IB offers.
    Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard (£106.62 @ Amazon UK)
A typical, reliable, and popular motherboard.
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£38.10 @ Ebuyer)
You could upgrade to 16GB if you're doing any intensive video editing. However, I'm assuming you're just gaming, so 8GB is fine in that case.
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 680 2GB Video Card (£427.99 @ CCL Computers)
You could save about 20 and get a worse brand, but ASUS is more reliable and has better cooling than the others. Also, a 680 is the second-best GPU out there (the 690 comes in first, but it's like 900), and will max out any game.
    Total: £735.68

I went a little over... sorry!
  2. ocz modxstream pro 600w psu and i have a cooler master v6gt CPU cooler.

also i would rather have a 3570k because i can use it with a a z77 mobo and get the features and i wont be ocing past 4.5ghz

also from what i have seen the GTX 670 has the best performance to price ratio.
  3. Okay, right on all counts. 670 has the best in Nvidia... the 7850 is best price/performance overall. However, Nvidia is better ;)

Your choice. You had room in the budget for a 680, but you can drop to a 670 if you want.
