First pc build for gaming, need some input £800-£1400

Hi, this will be my first pc build and I am hoping for some input and advice regarding it as I only decided to do this last Sunday (needed a new pc for a couple months but simply put it off but I figured it was about time I got one.

Thanks for taking the time to look this over and for any input given, it's greatly appreciated.

Approximate Purchase Date: May 6th-10th

Budget Range: £800-1400

System Usage from Most to Least Important: MMO Games / Streaming / General web browsing

Parts Not Required: --------

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: UK based but otherwise none, recommendations welcome

Country: UK

Parts Preferences: Intel / Nvidia

Overclocking: Maybe in the future depending on ease / risk as I have never done it before but if I did it would most likely just be the cpu into the 4.0-4.4 range

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: Not sure but I plan on getting a monitor shortly after the PC is built, recommendations on res, size and overall good monitors welcome

Additional Comments: Will link parts to Newegg for convenience but will check around for prices / UK based once parts are finalized, any recommended UK sites?


Case: Not sure on what case to get, thinking between NZXT Phantom / Corsair Carbide 500r / Corsair Obsidian 650d / any others i should consider or any input on these? Should dust filters be considered when picking a case?

GPU: EVGA GTX 680 Signature Edition - Is this this the best version of the 680? Want to get the best gpu atm for future proofing / quality but are there any compelling reasons to grab a cheaper gpu and if so which?

Any reason to consider SLI with motherboard / psu if i grabbed the 680 and only really gonna be playing mmo's?
Just not sure how i should futureproof this, as in should i grab 650w psu + single card motherboard and update in 3yrs or so with sli board + new cpu + another 680?

As above in the additional comments i could use some input on a monitor but also a mouse / pad / keyboard / each for mmo usage mainly as i play fps's and such on the 360 with my brother.

Note - The monitor and other parts are seperate from the computer build budget

Hey there. I'm also building a PC at the moment and I'd say I'm no expert, but I've been researching a fair bit about parts and whatnot. I'll help where I can!

The Antec Three Hundred Two is good in that it has good airflow, front USB 3.0 ports and is cheap (£55 on ebuyer.com). Would recommend that.

Good choice, also on my list (ebuyer.com are selling this for £88 ish including delivery)

I am also trying to future proof myself by having a good PSU for potential future SLI. I think 700-750W would be best to ensure you can SLI if you wish later.

I'm not sure the answer to your question but I have the exact same (Asrock) mobo on my list! Seems good in that it can Xfire and SLI and is only £110 on ebuyer.com. I think it seems pretty decent and is reviewed well, I'd say stick with it.

I've got down the 2500K because more seems to be a bit overkill. By the sounds of things the 2500K is great because it's easy to OC and doesn't produce much heat, and should be more than enough for most of anything gaming-wise...

I would say that card is really quite expensive for what it is - I'm planning on a single GTX 570 card which can be bought for £200:

Now two of these could be bought for the price of a GTX 680 and run in SLI if you so wish, which would be more powerful than a single 680. Or you could just buy one and still run games on max and wait for the price to drop before you buy another.

There are probably other good sites to use but I don't know any more. If you're going to use more than one shop you have to monitor how much extra (if any) you're going to spend on delivery costs.

The differences between the Asrock Z77 Pro3 and Extreme4 that I have noticed include:
The Extreme4 has two more SATA 6Gb/s ports, an eSATA port, two more USB3 ports, two less USB2 ports, a DVI-D video output port, an extra fan connector (5 vs 4), more phases, Gold capacitors and a better audio codec.

meltigemini i'll have a look at the case and reconsider the 2500k but i figured the 3570k should be able to get to 4.0-4.4 and i heard there wasn't much difference for games beyond 4.0, the reason i considered the 680 was for future proofing and to get the best quality for the games i would be playing which are generally lower gpu requirements than fps games anyways so would last me awhile + i don't want to SLI till i have to but ill consider the gpu you mentioned and thanks for the input on the other parts.

Silvune thanks for the site list and comparison site + information on the asrock z77, i guess ill stick with the extreme 4, any reason not to deal with reputable sellers on ebay? (New parts)
