I would like to play recent games at a smooth rate..
I would also like to use photoshop and sony vegas not necessarily at the same time..
Would £400 be enough to reach them requirements?

Hey. For £400, you could really get a decent rig. However, I would advice against ebay. I am not sure if you need the monitor or Windows, so I didn't include them. Let's see what I can make out:

Processor: Intel Pentium G850 2.9GHz - £61.99
Motherboard: MSI H61M-P31-G3 - £35.99
Graphics card: XFX HD 6870 1024MB GDDR5 - £139.99
Memory: Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit - £19.99
Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 500GB - £58.99
Power supply: Corsair Builder Series CX 430W V2 '80 Plus' Power Supply - £34.99
Optical drive: LG 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - £18.98
Case: Cooler Master Elite 311 Midi Tower - £29.99

Total: £400.91

What do you think about it? :) It will handle all new games on high-best settings (depends on the game), and will handle photoshop and sony vegas too. Of course, it won't be super fast at rendering, but that's the best you can get if you want gaming too (for £400, that is). For £37 more you could drop i3 2120 in, which would be a nice upgrade to rendering, because of hyperthreading, though it's not a necessity if you don't have the money.
