Afternoon,

I am looking at building a gaming pc rig, i have been considering building my own pc or buying a Alienware M15x MLK for £550 of a friend. I think a pc would be the best option as i can always steal my fiances laptop.

Im hoping to be able to build a pc for around £500 - 600 that will run BF3 at high/ultra settings :pt1cable: if that is possible.

I have only ever semi build a pc before.

What parts would you recommened and where is best to shop? Im am from the UK.

Items i will need...

PSU - £14-20???
MOTHERBOARD - £50?
CPU - £100??
HARD DRIVE - £50?
DISC DRIVE - already have loads of spare dvd drives which will do for the time being?
GRAPHICS CARD - £100-200?
BASE UNIT - £30
MONITOR - £100
RAM - £50

That works out for £550 ish, surely in that rough pricing i would be able to get a decent rig?

Sold my old q6600, 4gb ram, XfX 8800gts for £300 it did go along with a 24 inch monitor though but all of it was 4-5 years old so a good deal i hope?

Mate, You should have kept the screen.

For BF3 Ultra your budget is way to low you need to look at £700, and that's without Windows which is £70.
More realistic prices below:

PSU - £50+
MOTHERBOARD - £70+
CPU - £140
HARD DRIVE - £70+
DISC DRIVE - as long as they're SATA that'll be fine
GRAPHICS CARD - £170+
BASE UNIT (Case?)- £30+
MONITOR - £100+
RAM - £30 +

Just a rough outline

PSU - XFX 550w
MOTHERBOARD - Gigabyte Z68 AP D3
CPU - i5 2300
HARD DRIVE - 500GB
DISC DRIVE - as long as they're SATA that'll be fine
GRAPHICS CARD - At least a GTX 560Ti/HD 6950 or above
BASE UNIT (Case?)- Bitfenix Merc Alpha
MONITOR - Don't really know, try for IPS for good colour reproduction but a TN panel is more likely at this price point
RAM - 8Gb 1600MHz CAS9 (or 1333MHz there's little difference)

There are of course many options and you should do some research. Sites which are for the UK:
