Budget Range: around £550 inc tax, but if its worth it then perhaps i could push my parents and family to giving me more :) £600 tops, but its not easy to do that atm because of work and the recession e.t.c.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming & work(lots of internet browsing and word processing e.t.c), small scale programming(html, xhtml, css, javascript and java in the future) movies &music, small scale 3d modelling with pro engineer

Parts Not Required: OS, disc reader writer burner thingy. and i would like a new gaming keyboard, and headset but i suppose theyll have to wait until later :3

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: www.scan.co.uk www.ebuyer.com www.overclockers.co.uk anything english where i dont pay half the computer budget on stupid shipping :')

Country of Origin: England

Argon Intel Core i3 550 3.20GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle - Gigabyte £230

the case should look nice, and after that, as long a my harddrive is reasonable, im happy :D

Overclocking: Yes / Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 1920*1080

Additional Comments: i would love a kind of quiet pc, but its not imperative.
needs to be able to play games at a very high level
needs to be able to multi task slightly, but everything it does must be fast, i friggin hate my comp lagging on a bloody web browser or openoffice.
needs to be affordable, and slightly upgradable? im not too bothered if this lasts me for at least 3 years

thanks for the ideas! that hex core looks amazing :D although im not sure about the ssd cause they're supposed to be unreliable, and im not planning on crossfire or sli so that mobo is fine.
im looking at reviews to that graphics card now, im not sure though, i might just want to spend a bit more on a graphics card?
i think its worth it for games like crysis 2 :3

so whats better, a 3.2ghz hex core or a 4 / 4.2ghz dual core?

fair enough, ssd's are not that important, and the GPU is just on a good deal, try to get a 68** or 69** AMD they seem good, and about clock speeds, the dual core will limit your speed of work on graphical software so you will need hexacore for that or quadcore but above 3GHz you will not really notice much difference in gaming but will benefit in image and video editiing and 3d modelling.

+1 This would be a really solid build. I would like to add my own variations if you don't mind. Obviously jake could add the GPU of his choice.
Having an 800 series mobo is a good choice if someone wants/needs SATA 6Gbps and/or USB3, however if you don't then you could save a few quid getting a 700 series mobo. Altho there is some talk about Gigabyte having released 'Black Socket', 'AM3+ ready motherboards' that supposedly will support AM3+ CPUs. It's unlikely that they will be able to support all the features of a Zambezi or Llano processor, but it's all a guessing game as far as customers are concerned.

Getting a heatsink will be a good way to reduce noise levels. The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 and Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus are the best options below £20.
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro £15

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus £18

nice work :D
you guys are great :) and i will probably go with a 6850 toxic? or just a plain 6850 or 5830/50
the gtx 460 costs just a bit to much for the performance i think
and i will get a heatsink... it should allow for slight overclocking as well?
and im a little confused over the mobos so any you say are the best ill just get i guess

One way to cut down on the delivery costs is to make 20 (useful) post on bit-tech forums and they will give you free next day delivery at scan and cclonline.com.

I am not a fan of Corsair's updated/new CX/builder series, their efficiency is not good in comparison to 80Plus Bronze units - the CXs don't even have the standard 80Plus certification. Their temperature rating is also lower than on Antec's unit, the build quality is worse. And it isn't any more powerful - they both have 40A 12V rails. I think the Antec HCG-520 is well worth the extra £6.
