Unfortunately this goes over budget, you can save £10 going with cheaper RAM which is likely worth doing, search around for a cheaper PSU and a weaker one and that should get you close to £400. Unfortuantely I have to head off so cannot refine the suggestions atm
  2. use asteldians cpu, hard drive, and mobo. go for this ram instead.

    Corsair Memory XMS3 Classic 4GB DDR3 dual channel ram-£38.54

replace the power supply with this. you don't really need that much power for the graphics card. Antec 380W EarthWatts Green PSU - 80plus Bronze Certified £35

  3. Sorry I'm so late replying I've been having issues with my macbook :/
Thanks for the advice, looks good, I'll contact my friend and see if it looks okay with him (although he knows even less about these things than me ;))
  4. He had some problems with the ema bonus being cancelled and nobody telling us, so has only just got enough money to be able to buy it (£340). So with this being the best part of a month after the original purchase date, and the graphics card no longer being sold from the linked website, I am posting to ask for any changes people would make to this build, and a link to a new graphics card or a new link to the same graphics card at a different website.

    Thanks :)
  5. just noticed the ram is slightly more expensive now, so go for this 1 instead. its the same ram at the same price but its 1333mhz instead of 1600mhz. wont make a difference for your use.

you should stick with the same processor or maybe go up to the x4 640.

you could go for a cheaper motherboard to be honest and maybe go for a 500gb hard drive instead of a 1tb.

heres the same hard drive but with 500gb.

    heres a cheaper motherboard.

stay with the same dvd drive. for the power supply you can get this now for the same money. its a new 1 but antec are a good brand.

the cases are still good. if you want to pick a different 1 since you might not like the look of them, choose 1 from here.

the graphics card you were looking at is only slightly more expensive now.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-evga-gts-450-40nm-3608mhz-gddr5-gpu-822mhz-shader-1645mhz-192-cores-2x-dl-dvi-i-mini-hdmi

you do have other options though. you could go for the cheaper palit version. evga are considered a better brand though.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-palit-gts-450-40nm-3608mhz-gddr5-gpu-783mhz-shader-1566mhz-192-cores-dl-dvi-i-d-sub-hdmi

or you could get a HD5750 instead. its cheaper but it is slightly slower.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-xfx-hd-5750-pci-e-20%28x16%29-1150mhz-gddr5-gpu-700mhz-cores-720-2x-dl-dvi-i-hdmi

the last option is to go for a HD5770. this is more expensive but its faster than the gts450. the cheapest is this xfx model.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-xfx-hd-5770-pci-e-20-%28x16%29-4800mhz-gddr5-gpu-850mhz-800cores-2x-dl-dvi-i-dp-hdmi

you could go for a better brand like sapphire for not too much extra money though.
