Approximate Purchase Date: End of January 2011
Budget Range: £400-500
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming , Internet, General Merriment. No Major video editing, folding@home, etc.
Parts Not Required: Will require keyboard, mouse and monitor (moving from a laptop), but not included in this budget.
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: eBuyer, Aria, Scan, Amazon, eBay, Overclockers
Country of Origin: England, UK
Parts Preferences: Likely using an AMD CPU due to price point. But feel free to suggest intel. No brand loyalty.
Overclocking: I would like to include some overclocking of the CPU and maybe GPU or RAM.
SLI or Crossfire: Not really viable at the price point
Monitor Resolution: Monitor hasn't been bought yet. <£150
Additional Comments: Nothing in particular. I plan to go back to WoW after my January Modules. Want to run it well and at a decent FPS in all situations. Playing at ~10FPS on this laptop is not fun. Also plan to get involved in some steam games, eg L4D2. Nothing like Crysis. Keeping costs as low as possible. Student budget here.

Apart from the power supply. It is the same platform as the poorly reviewed 750 and 650W versions.

In summary it can't deal with heat (40C) and has out of spec ripple on the 3.3V rail when fully loaded. So I don't recommend them, if you think you will be fine with one that's your call.

I would recommend either the
OCZ StealthXStream II 600W £52

Or the Be Quiet Pure Power 530W £56

You could also have the OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W if you want modularity.
