£450 Gaming PC

Hi there,

I'm currently making a build for my friend, and what he want's is a gaming pc, as good as he can get it for £450, however his main purpose is to play portal 2, a game being released at the start of 2010, so my first question is that is it worth me building the system without a graphics card, and they near when the game comes out, to buy one, in the hope that in a couple of months the card i could buy then would be much cheaper.

So effectively, this pc is a £325-£350 pc without a graphics card.

Also, i'm UK based, so ebuyer is preferred, as well as overclockers.uk

My next question is that would a corsair 500w run the above system, with around a GTX 460 in it, or most things around that price point. I won't be overclocking/small amounts.

And I forgot to say earlier, although not always possible with games, the monitors resolution is 1920x1080.

the cx500 is good enough, if you think its too risky you could always spend £10 more and get the cx600.

that 4870 is a very good deal. it uses around the same amount of power as a gtx460. you could invest about £20-25 more and get the 5770, it has similar performance to the 4870 but uses less power and has directx11. saying that the gtx 460 768mb version is only around £10-15 more then the 5770 and has better performance then a 4870.

If u want to build a workable rig w/o discrete then hit an IGP chipset like 760G/785G/880G.....

Hi there,

I had seen that RAM but I though that I would lose out of the dual channel aspect of having 2x1.

And I went for that particular model of GTX 460 as I have the 1GB version and it runs about 25 degrees on idle.

everything seems fine. you are going to add another 2gb ram later right? 2gb on a 64bit OS is pretty much the minimum.

theres currently a sale on so i would go for these corsair ddr3 ram instead and save you a few quid.
