Hey people, I'm located in the UK and I'm looking to complete a first time build of a mid range pc. Judging by a lot of the posts here, they tend to be US based. I'm looking for verification that the combination of components will give me what I need, and if there's something cheaper / better within the budget, I'm all ears! Several components I'm already set on getting, as in I see no other alternative for the price. These include the Case, CPU , RAM and DVD drive. Several of the components have also already been ordered.

After scoping the forum and site, I've got the list down to this:

Case: Antec p180 mini
CPU: Intel Core i5-760
Mobo: (Ordered) Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4gb
GPU: (Ordered) MSI GeForce GTX 460 1GB
HD: (Ordered) Samsung SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w
DVD drive: C Samsung SH-S223
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus
Thermal Paste: Artic cooling MX-3

Total: £726

I will be using this machine for moderate gaming (MW2, GTA4, Starcraft 2 etc). Along with watching movies, hence the p180 "mini" case which comes sound dampened side panels. I really like this case, despite being fairly old, but as a first time builder it seems fairly simple to build!

Areas where I'm still a little unsure is the CPU cooler. The CM Hyper 212 + is much hyped, perhaps an alternative is the Gelid tranquillo?
The PSU has been chosen because it is on offer at the moment, and offered my a budget PSU suitable for the system. Couldn't really see any other better alternatives.

Your thoughts / critique are appreciated!

I have that psu and rest assured it's very good.
I also own two of the same Samsung DVD drives no complaints.
It doesn't appear to me that the CM Hyper 212 is the plus model.
It looks like the regular version and doesn't have mounting hardware for 1156/1366.
I would consider these:

I think you might have a problem mounting any tower cooler over 150mm tall in your case.
Someone can correct me if i'm wrong i'm not familiar with that case.

Good to get reassurance on the PSU :D

The Hyper 212 plus link was my mistake, I actually had that same link to overclockers.co.uk saved away, thanks for spotting that.

I was aware of the clearance for the cooler, I'm certain that there are quite a few p180 mini's out there that fit in a Hyper 212 +. There's a p180 mini with a Xigmatek Dark Knight (160mm) too, so the Hyper 212 plus should fit :)

Yep upon further research your're good to go with a CM Hyper 212+ it will fit:)
The mini is a misnomer in the case name they are a mid-size cases really.

Slightly bigger and it could fit an ATX, but the size is fine for me :na:

Good to see the build holding up against your opinion !
