Ok here we go. I am inches away from pulling the trigger on buying my first of 3 IPS monitors. I need to make a solid choice.

First off the lineup:

HP ZR2740w: http://bit.ly/ruLoEc
27" IPS, 2560x1440, LED back lit* (not side lit, google the difference) - $679 new

HP ZR30w: http://bit.ly/nRG4eZ
30" S-IPS, 2560x1600, CCFL LCD - $799 display unit (no dead pixels), $998 new

Dell Utrasharp U2711: http://dell.to/daKbQ1
27" IPS, 2560x1440, CCFL LCD - $690 used (no dead pixels), $794 new

Application:

Primary: Professional video editor, Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, After Effects CS5.5. Color correction, editing, and motion graphics.
Secondary: Video games that support 3 monitor setups: BF3, Skyrim, SWTOR, WoW

I do not mind buying used or manu refurbs as long as there is a return policy with dead pixels and i get an accurate hours used from seller (which I have gathered all this information for all 3 monitors' sellers)

I am personally leaning towards the HP ZR30w for these reasons:
I have used an HP 24" IPS monitor from the same line as the ZR30w and I was very impressed. The stand is a little lacking compared to Dell's U2711, but honestly no one makes stands like Dell. So that's always gonna be a downside if you dont buy Dell. (yes even Apple's stands aren't as sick as Dell's)
The ZR30 has the maximum resolution consumer graphic cards can produce, and that's kinda attractive to me. (never used a 2560x1600 monitor before)
The ZR30 is well 30" and all the other manufactures of 30" S-IPS in this class are $1400+

What im looking for from you (replies):
Honest comparison of the tech specs of each monitor
Value for each (bang for ya buck)
Suggestions of places to purchase each other than the prices i have listed

What Im not looking for from you (replies):
How bad these monitors are and how you wouldn't waste your money on these monitors (especially when you have an Asus 22" at your house)
Suggestions for other monitors, ive researched this for half a year. It's between these 3.
Trolls.

Thanks for any help!

I'm waiting for a review on the zr2740w. It's response time is listed as higher than the zr30w, and the zr30w has very low input lag.

The u2711 also has more input lag than the zr30w, so despite it's size the 30 incher might be the best gaming monitor of the bunch.

It's also almost time for Dell to release the 2012 model monitors, if they make a 27 inch equivalent of the u2412m I might be inclined to go with that.

This is an old thread but I thought I would chime in as I'm looking at the same monitors for work. There seems to be a great deal of concern over the anti-glare coating on both the Dell and HP models. An alternative is the Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D. Seems to have a better coating for pro work.

It's amazing! I had to turn down the brightness out of the box, it was like a freaking spotlight. Other than that I've had no ghost issues, it comes color corrected out of box so it has no menu options.
