I had considered buying the 120hz LG monitor, but now I've found this Samsung P2770FH, which although it's 60hz, it features 1ms of response time, and 27"! I think that big screen must look much more impressive with games. I suppose I can play well my first person shooters at 75fps with sync (I suppose this panel is able to use 1920x1080 at 75hz, right? Some say that that res is low for a 27 panel, but I prefer it that way because the icons, the text and everything don't look so small. I'm afraid that reading text at 1920x1080 in a 23" screen is not confortable for me. What do you think? I've found tons of reviews and opinions about the LG, but not much about the Samsung.

Edit: Now I've found another good candidate for a 27" 60hz monitor. Some say it's even better than the Samsung. It's the ASUS VE278Q, also at a reasonable price. Any opinions about it?

1ms response time is overhyped; it does not mean it is 2x better than 2ms response times. Additionally, there are a few reviews on some of these "1ms" monitors and the review were basically negative. Yes, the monitor did run at "1ms" but there were serious issues whether you would see something that looked like negative trailing colors. For example, you move your white mouse pointer across the screen and it left a black mouse trail. I won't go into the technical reasons unless you ask.

120Hz monitors operate using two 60Hz connections liked Dual Linked DVI which is supported by nearly all modern video cards (excluding budget video cards). Therefore, you get either 60Hz or 120Hz. Some normal 60Hz monitors can take refresh rates at 75Hz (or so), but at lower resolution. Do not naturally assume a 120Hz monitor will allow you to choose all frequencies between 60Hz and 120Hz.

I use 25.5" 1920x1200 monitors, but I also have a 24" 1920 x 1080 monitor and it is a little easier to read on a 25.5" monitor.

I have no opinion on the Asus VE278Q. If it seems to suit your needs then go for it.

The fact is that one of my priorities is at least 75hz, of course, using the monitor's native res mode. 60 fps is too low for first person shooters. I have information about these two 27" models. However, nobody is sure whether they allow 1920x1080@75hz or not. Can this be found out from the following data?

Asus VE278Q
Analogic: 24~92kHz (H)/ 50~85 Hz (V)
Digital: 24~92kHz (H)/ 50~85 Hz (V)

Samsung SyncMaster P2770FH
Horizontal : 30-81 Khz
Vertical : 56-75 Hz

JaguarSKX - I have an Asus 23" 120Hz monitor, and I can select any refresh rate from 50Hz to 120Hz (and it works correctly), so I don't know where you got your information about only 60Hz and 120Hz working.

To the OP - I would recommend a 120Hz monitor to you, as it REALLY makes a big difference while gaming (as long as you force the game to set that refresh rate), especially if you have a powerful enough GPU to push over 60FPS (ideally up to 120FPS)

The biggest thing to keep in mind is "Input Lag", because even if the monitor you're looking at boasts a 1ms or 2ms response time doesn't mean it has low input lag. Do some reasearch, there are some websites that compare them side-by side and take a super-fast photo of them so that you can compare the "Input Lag" by reading the numbers on a very accurate clock that's running on both displays.

*Edit*: Sorry, didn't realize the date was 2011 instead of 2012!
