After my shitty old computer broke I decided to buy a new one and build from scratch. My budget is £500/$900 or there abouts..I do a lot of design work and often have 1gb+ photoshop files open, I am also trying to go into some 3d design so anything that would help with that is a plus.

BUDGET: £500/$900

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: As soon as possible really.

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Photoshop/Illustrator>3D Work>Video/General Use/Gaming

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, OS, Possibly DVD-RW Drive.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Don't Mind.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: England

PARTS PREFERENCES: Don't mind

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Don't really know enough about.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1280x1024 is my current.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: 64 bit obviously, don't mind most things, I'm open to suggestions. May use a 1tb external hard drive if that saves money on buying a large internal

Thanks in advance and sorry I haven't really provided much but I honestly have no idea as to where I should start.

CPU: i5-750 $200
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 $105
RAM: Cheapest 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 (Timings 7-7-7-x) 2x2 GB. Get 2 kits. $230
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB $90
PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 700W $55
GPU: HD 5770 $160
Case: Antec 300 Illusion $60. Or the 300 if it's not avialable

Total: $900. Would have really liked to squeeze the i7-920 in there, but it just wasn't happening.

Probably a more realistic build in pounds would be:
CPU: Athlon II X4 620 £75
Mobo: ASUS M4A77TD PRO £66
RAM: Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Ballistix Memory Kit CL7 (7-7-7-24) 1.65V £88
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB £65
PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 600W £60
GPU: Is a powerful video card needed for the type of tasks you're doing? If not then you can save money by going for something less powerful and cheaper than a ATI 5770, such as this MSI HD 5750 £97
CASE: Antec 300 £46

Total: £497

Thanks so far, can either of you explain to me why parts cost so much more in pounds than in dollars? for example the i5-750 is $200 on newegg yet one ebuyer is £152 :\ so thats like a £30/$50 difference

It's not only that. It's also an availability issue. Most of the tech companies are based in the US, and most of the high end tech buyers are in the US. Thus, it's cheaper for the manufacturers to get the new tech out to the US first, lowering the prices faster. Also, with a bigger demand, the companies don't need to sell as many to make a profit, so they keep their per unit profit margin lower to increase demand.
