To play at 120Hz does it depends on motherboard or monitor or both?

I am going to buy a 3D 120Hz monitor (Asus VG236H 23" 2ms), but I am wondering that in order to use the monitor at 120Hz refresh rate, do you just need the monitor that supports 120Hz OR it is also required to have a motherboard that supports 120Hz?

I am thinking of buying one of these boards below (I checked in specification and it does not mention if it supports 120Hz or not):

I think that's more on your video card than your motherboard.

You could try checking out nvidia for how to make 120hz 3D work since they have it all listed on how it works.
