I know a lot about computers and all the other stuff, but need informed on a good monitor. Any info would be fine, or any good deals. And also does HDMI only support 1920x1080? Should I get a higher resolution or is that fine? I'm using the GTX 570 and I was hoping to stay under $200 for the monitor but I could go over that if necessary. Thanks

Solution
For $200 or less you are not going to find a monitor that's higher than 1920 x 1080 resolution. HDMI can support up to 2560 x 1600 resolution.

I have the Asus VK246H, but it's "sister" monitor the Asus VW246H is selling for $200. The difference between the VK and VW is that the VK includes a built-in webcam.

You can read my review of the VK246H which also applies to the VW246H in the following thread:

The cheapest 1920 x 1200 monitor from Newegg I would recommend you look at is the 24" HP LA2405wg for $290...

There is a cheaper 27" 1920 x 1200 monitor made by Hanns-G, but the overall quality of their monitors is pretty poor in my opinion. It's your money if you want to risk it.

Solution

Yes, technically, HDMI 1.3 or higher can support 2560x1600 resolution, but monitors with resolutions that high don't always support it over HDMI - My Gateway XHD3000 only supports 1920x1080 on the HDMI port; to get 2560x1600 I have to use dual-link DVI. The Dell U2711 is similar according to the manual I found online: 2560x1440 is only supported for DisplayPort and dual-link DVI, not HDMI. At the moment I'm having trouble finding the online manual for the Dell U3011, but I suspect it has the same limitation.
