What happened to all the 1920x1200 monitors?

I want a new monitor, I have been looking on newegg for a 1920x1200 and the only reasonable one to buy is tha ASUS VW266H (yes, limited budget of 300$). I have heard bad things about this monitor , blue color is very noticeable, image is not very sharp, etc. Is there any site that sells a great 24 -26 inch monitor for under 300$. I might get the asus but Im not very convinced by the reviews, also the stand is cheap. I dont want a 1920x1080 monitor, options? Also, newegg seems to have very limited options for 1200 p monitors, almost every item is deactivated. I want it mostly for gaming obviously.

1920x1080 is cheaper for the panel manufacturers to make, so that's why you've seen a migration towards 16:9 aspect ratios. It kind of sucks, since I (and many others like you) think 16:10 is better, but pretty much all new lower end panels (and several higher end panels) are going towards that.

so have you tried the Asus and the other monitor I am talking about? are they good? Do you know of a good 1920x1200 monitor under 300$?

Newegg has a refurbished hp lp2465 for $209, really cheap for a 1920x1200 monitor with a pva panel. Judging from comments though their packaging on this particular item is awful though and it will likely take a few tries to get one that's undamaged. Still, a $1000 monitor from a few years ago for $209 seems really good, I'll be ordering one when I get home this weekend. Some reviews say it has response time issues, others say it has great response time, and another said that the earliest versions of this monitor had an issue handling signals differing too much from 60fps, but that the issue was fixed soon after. I'm on a laptop screen with something like a 12 or 16ms response time though, so the listed 8ms should be an improvement. It's obviously a gamble, but its hard to beat $209 for a high-quality 1920x1200 monitor.

A $300 budget basically limits you to a TN panel monitor which is not really known for great colors. If you really want a good 1920 x 1200 monitor, then you will have to bring up your budget to $500.

You can buy a good 1920 x 1080 monitor for $300 like the Dell U2311h which uses an e-IPS panel for better colors, but you will need to "settle" for a lower resolution.

I own a 1920 x 1080 monitor (Asus VK246H) and two 1920 x 1200 monitors (NEC LCD2490WUXi and Planar PX2611w). I can say without a doubt that I prefer 1920 x 1200 monitors. The only reason why I bought the Asus was because it is connected to my HTPC (home theater PC) which is connected to my 1080p HDTV. I basically want both screen to have the same resolution.

I've generally read favorable reviews of the Asus VW266H, but with the budget that you set you are basically scrapping the bottom of the barrow especially if you are looking for any larger than a 24" monitor.

Brands I absolutely avoid due to build quality issues:

What do you think about refurbished items? from amazon? There's a samsung t260 and lots of cheap refurbished monitors there.

I bought both the i-inc iF281D and iH282 (27") monitors last year for $249/ea and am completely satisfied. No dead/stuck pixels and operation is ideal as a computer monitor. Not so good as a TV as the off axis view could be better. Seems that Tiger is the only source for these now and only in their stores in the east. I'd buy another at the Tiger price as a backup but they don't ship.
