I am a long time reader first time poster, and have decided to build myself a new PC. It will be mainly used for games, but will also be used for video editing and school work. I have a slight knowledge of some components, but I don’t have a clue about PSU’s, Motherboards and Cases. My budget is £400-£450. I have picked some parts that I think are good but need help choosing the rest / changing what I have picked for something better. What I have so far is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, S775, 2.66 GHz, 1333MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=632054

256MB XFX 8600GT Fatal1ty, PCI-E(x16) Mem 1700MHz GDDR3 GPU 620MHz 2xDL DVI-I/HDTV Heat Pipe Cooling http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=615951

500 Gb Samsung HD501LJ Spinpoint T, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=494552

These come to around £285, but I don’t know if it is possible to get everything else I need for £165. Can someone suggest what my parts should be? Thanks

Change the 8600Gt for the better performing but £10 cheaper x1950Pro
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119203/rb/0
E6750 is £3 cheaper here
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/130484
HDD is £1 cheaper here
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/130454

So that brings us to £271 leaving us 179 for PSU, Case, RAM, and optical.

Arctic Cooling Case with decent 550 Watt PSU - £41.96

Good OCZ RAM 2x 1GB - £54.48

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/125208
NEC DVD SATA Burner - £14.77

Leaving you around £66 to play with on a better PSU or something.

Happy shopping

Oops, forgot the mobo. I agree with the above, go with the e6550 and overclock it slightly. The P5K would work nicely with the e6550. The e6550 is about $40 cheaper from the looks of it.

As i don't want to overclock, I think I will stay with the E6750, though thanks very much for the advice, so my parts list is now,

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
Sapphire X1950Pro 256MB
500 Gb Samsung HD501LJ Spinpoint
OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400
ASUS P5K AiLifestyle Series iP35 Socket 775 eSATA

Though I am undecided on the case, as according to some reviews the power supply is very hard to switch out if it turns faulty, and there isn't much room to work in the case. I also forgot to mention that I would in a few months most likely to add something such as a Thermalright 120 and have a go at overclocking, but only after a couple of months. So any other ideas for a case? and is the Motherboard compatible with all my components so far?

Thanks again.
