Hi i am preparing a build for lan party gaming and was wondering what everyone thought. I will be buying from www.overclockers.co.uk and www.ebuyer.co.uk and want to make it as easy to carry around as possible. This is also my first build :D

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 XT Extreme SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Vista Basic £54

Case: Sweex Black MATX Desktop/Media Case - With 400W PSU £30

Ram: Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) £56

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Socket AM2 Dual Core (2.4GHz) 512kb L2 cache Retail Boxed Processor £71

Asrock AM2NF6G-VSTA Micro ATX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £30

Optical drive: HP DVD940i 18x SuperMulti DVD±RW/RAM Lightscribe Black Retail Box £20

Now we come to my difficult debate. The graphics card and hardrive.

I was thinking this for hardrive:

Western Digital Raptor X 150GB WD1500AHFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache - OEM £151

As i only need 160gb of space (possibly 250) and really want a fast boot time. But it is very expencive for my buget.

The graphics card is equally difficult. I was thinking the Evga superclocked 8600gts £135 but i want to know if it would be powerful enough to play dx10 games well. Or weather it would be worth going for a dx9 card like the evga ko 7900gs £99, The ati x1950pro £100 or the PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 XT Extreme SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 £130.

Finally although it seems pretty expencive there is the 8800gts 320 for £173 although like the x1950xt it would overhang one of my two pci slots (the other is for wireless) and would be difficult to justify the graphics card being by far the most expencive componant to my dad (who i had difficulty enough perswading him to let me take this computer to lan parties.)

My final points would be is 4gb ram worth it for an extra £56 and is the processor up to sratch?

Thanks

Patrick
