I can't make up my mind between the:

2709 NEW ULTRSHARP 27" monitor for $650 Total w/ taxes brand NEW

-OR-

Dell ULTRSHARP 3007 WFP 30" Monitor Refurbished for $799 before taxes.

I know with the 30" I get higher resolution and 3 more inches. But with 3000:1 contrast ratio and also being an 09 model wouldn't I be bettor off with the 2709??? Or should I get the 30" Refurbished monitor with 1000:1 contrast ratio??

Are the LCD's any different? Picture quality??

Arent they both FULL HD?

Help please.

I would personally go for the 30"
Higher resolution and I presume (being a monitor..) will run at full HD or higher, sir.

2560 x 1600 is the 30" native res. but viewing text will be a bit eye popping so I recommend 1920x1200... which is still substantially higher than the full HD 1080 you were wanting.

Conclusion...
27" has a higher contrast and 30" has a higher resolution, but I have a 19" monitor and even for me I sometimes hurt my eyes with it's native. So sir it's up to you. But I personally recommend that you buy 37" even if it is for gaming... your graphics will probably be smoother at a lower res.

Hope you make the right choice ;) Sorry if I was useless lol... :p

I looked at both in detail.

The 2709 has a smaller resolution 1920x1280 meaning that the picture looks "bigger" by default.

I use this for programming, word, etc - and having a bigger native resolution is easier on my eyes.

The 3007 has a muich higher resolution meaning more gets put on the screen but it appears smaller.

If you dumb down the 3007 to 1920x1280, it looks fuzzy...

I'm guessing you don't need a reply any more after two years. Still, for anybody out there who finds this thread...

I have owned a Dell 2709w for more than a year, and I got a Dell 3007WFP-HC a couple of months ago.

The 2709w has slightly better horizontal viewing angles. The 3007WFP-HC is fine too, much better than my older Samsung TN-based LCD. It's a bit weird, because in theory the IPS technology in the 3007 should be better than the PVA in the 2709. I'm just saying what I see with my two monitors placed side by side. Vertical viewing angles are excellent for both and I can't see a difference there.

The 3007WFP-HC has a lot more pixels, plus a card reader. I can watch a movie and browse the Web at the same time on it with the windows side by side. That was possible on the 27" too but less comfortable.

I'm very happy with both, TBH. I paid about C$ 700 for the 27" and C$ 1000 for the 30", both bought online from Dell Canada when they were on sale. (I'm guessing US prices are a bit lower, but not by much, with the exchange rate close to parity these days.)

The Dell U2711 (27", IPS, 2560x1440, usually C$ 900 when on sale) gets excellent reviews these days too. I was very tempted, but I decided my eyesight was not good enough for pixels that small.

Between 3007WFP and 3007WFP-HC: the "HC" is about $500 less and does better in games because it has a better response time.
