Bought new Acer Monitor and it's causing eye strain

I just got the new Acer P235H 23" LCD monitor to replace my old Dell 17" LCD. Even though I lowered the contrast and brightness settings considerably (now it feels like the screen is a bit too dark), and set RGB levels to 40/40/40 I still feel that this monitor gives me eyestrain.

Any thoughts on the optimal settings for contrast and brightness to reduce the eyestrain? Are there any Windows related settings that can help?

The refresh rate is set at 75% and I am using Windows XP Home.

Thanks

Check that resolution and refresh rate conform to the screen's native settings.

Have you adjusted the gamma? I might leave the contrast and brightness higher, like I did on my monitor, and adjust my gamma levels thru my graphics card program.

try fihart's suggestion first, i'm no pro when it comes to monitors... But what I did worked for me
