Need a monitor: 1920x1080 or 1680x1050?

So I'm looking to build my first gaming rig soon, and I need to get a monitor to go with it. For my GPU, I'm either getting a 1gb or 512mb HD 4870. There are 2 monitors on newegg for $200 that are 1920x1080.

My question is, if I decided to go with a 22" LCD that is 1680x1050 to save a little extra money, would there be a huge difference between the 2 resolutions? I want my games to look as nice as possible, but run smoothly. I do not want to spend more than $200 on a monitor. Thanks!

  1. Performance difference between 1920 x 1080 and 1680 x 1050 can be substantial depending on the game. Click the link below to see some benchmarks for the HD 4870 (performance between 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 1200 should be fairly close):

  2. I can only strongly agree on jaguarskx's advice. I can't add anything that will be any use, sorry. ;)
