I've been doing all my gaming on a 1280x1024 19" low response LCD monitor. I have no complaints, but I was planning to upgrade or add another monitor soon and I have a few questions.

I have a second monitor I use primarily for work related jobs, a 20.1" 1600x1200 LCD. Gaming on that monitor doesn't work very well. Most games don't seem to support 1600x1200, so with 1:1 scaling, most of the screen real estate isn't being used. A lot of games seem to max out at 1280x1024.

If I get a 24" widescreen with a 1920x1200 resolution, will I have the same problem?

Is 1:1 scaling essential for gaming? Can the monitor enlarge the image while maintaining the proper aspect ratio?

Do a lot of games support widescreen aspect ratios natively now?
