What 19" monitors for about $250 would you most recommend? I have been looking at Viewsonic's E90FB perfect flat, or there A91F+ screen - which is better? Or should I forget both and go with a different brand & model altogether?

Suggestions & reasons please? Thank you so much,

Dan

PC Magazine and one of the two major gaming magazines gave rave review/recommendation to the Viewsonic E90F model. This one tops out at 1280x1024, if you want 1600x1200 on a 19" there's the G90F model, basically the same tube with higher resolution. There's a new Samsung model call 997DF, I don't know how good it is but you should check it out as well. Good luck.

For $250 and under, I would say go for either the Samsung 997DF or Viewsonic G90F, both of which can reach 1600x1200 at 75Hz or above. But these two use Shadow Mask tubes. If you prefer Trinitron/Diamondtron tube, which in most case is better for graphic but worse in text reading, go for the NEC FP912SE, but this would be out of your price range.

I personally have a viewsonic PF790. It is a great monitor with excellent picture & text display quality. In comparsion to my laptop's LCD, text on this monitor is almost as clear.

As far as running 1600x1200, I wouldn't in my opinion.
1) The text will be too small for it to be useful.
2) The PF790 only does 1600x1200@77HZ

I personally prefer to have a CRT running at at least 85Hz or higher, otherwise, I find it very straining on my eyes.

Good luck

All my Samsung flat tubes could be forced beyond 1600x1200 and work at 1920x1440 if you loaded the wrong driver.
