ViewSonic E70fb Monitor Problem -- Please help!?

I am having problems with my ViewSonic E70fb monitor. Without warning it will turn off for second and then turn back on and refresh as if changing screen resolutions at other times. Often a few of these "attacks" happen at once and the only thing I can do is wait until I can restart. Once I restarted and an error screen came up once I was in Windows saying something about a fatal program was unable to draw a frame or something. I've updated the drivers for my BFG GeForce4 Ti4200 card but it still happens. I am running Windows XP Pro and have my monitor connected with the standard RGB connector. What could the problem be and how can I fix it? I'd appreciate any help that you guys can offer. Thank you.

did you install the drivers that followed on cd with the monitor?

Yes I did install the drivers from the CD originally. Then I found an update on the ViewSonic web site and updated the drivers. When I uninstalled my graphics card and reinstalled it the monitor defaulted back to "Plugin and Play Monitor" so I am leaving it like that for now.

No. It isn't fritzing out like it was the other night but I did have the same thing happen last night again.

i still think you should try to install the original drivers that came with it; and turn off FW on your videocard

Ok, I will install the drivers from the CD that came with my monitor. Will post once I've done that. What is FW?

allright, cool. after all this is just trouble shooting (let's hope to do a headshot FW means 'Fast Writes'. It has to do with the way your graphicscard is addressed and generally makes the system very unstabile.

I uninstalled the ViewSonic drivers I had previously installed, restarted and reinstalled from the CD. But upon restarting my monitor is still listed as the generic "Plug and Play" variety. I think that is why I downloaded the updated drivers from ViewSonic originally. Hrm.

As for Fast Writes, I couldn't find the option for it anywhere. Where is it hiding?

Just uninstalled the Plug and Play Monitor from the Device Manager and ran the ViewSonic installer from the CD. But the CD doesn't seem to actually have drivers on it. The installation only offeres ViewSonic Display Optimization Files, a PDF user guide, an Acrobat 4.0 installer, and Colorif and True Internet Color (color calibration software). There are no drivers on the CD from the look of it. That is why I downloaded drivers from ViewSonic's web site. I think I might have an old version of the drivers on DVD. I will give that one a try...

Pulled an old version of the drivers from a DVD backup. Installed the driver's without problem and the monitor is now listed as "Viewsonic E70fb". Will see if the problem reoccurs, may have been something to do with the new drivers.

you should try to update the monitordrivers through 'display properties' insteal of 'device manager'.

Installed the old drivers and the problem occured once again. Will try installing the drivers from the Display Properties instead of the Device Manager as Viel suggested later.

I have a similar monitor and was forced to drop my refresh rate from 85MHz to 75MHz. The fritz thing was caused by a part getting too hot. But I got my monitor at a junk auction, so I can't complain.
