ATI and nVidia are both good brands - best to go with the particular make and model of card that provides the best value - regardling of which it is. See this link about the two card designers:

Can you provide a link to a UK online site from which you might purchase the cards so we can match prices to performance?

In the meantime, a good place to start a search for good cards is the THG article on the best video cards for the money, updated monthly to reflect new prices and new cards. Note that it includes a very brief description of the performance level of the card - you can read these to quickly see what range best matches your budget and card performance - plus links to reviews with detailed performance benchmarks, most often with comparisons to other cards:

for that res, the 6770 is a great choice, but a 5670 would do just fine. it could save you some cash.

Working with your budget, I recommend athe following for £71

XFX Radeon HD 5750 - Graphics adapter - Radeon HD 5750 - PCI Express 2.0 x16 - 1 GB GDDR5 - DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort

http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-Radeon-HD-5750-DisplayPort/...

It is two steps faster than the 5670 but one step slower than the 6770

Here is a review to give you some idea what to expect with the HD 5750:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5770,2446...

Note that your performance with this card might not be as good as the benchmarks in the review as the test system uses a faster CPU and memory that may affect performance. Also note that the Amazon UK listing states they have only one more HD 5750 in stock at this time.

i think the box it comes in is 32cm. i mean the card itself shouldnt be that big probably around the same width as a motherboard.

i think that the second set of dimensions you listed are correct while the first seems to be like the package its shipped in.
