Hello,
Which processor would be recommended for video editing on laptop (Avid Media Composer) of these two? HP offers a platform certified by Avid with a 620M core duo. Dell offers the 820 Quad Core but on a much more expensive laptop. Thanks for advising me. H

Hello and welcome to the forums :)
I would go for i7 820QM,its better for video editing because video editing benefits from QuadCore CPUs

Not all video editing benefits from quad core. Really only a few filters and effects are quad core optimised along with rendering to h.264. I
f you render to mpeg for DVD you will benefit from a faster dual core because mpeg rendering is optimised for dual core.
Overall the 620M will be more responsive during the running of the videoediting software. I returned a Core i7-720QM for the Core i7-620M and find Corel Video Studio Pro X3 faster with the Core i7-620M while using the program.
